St Helen's Church

History

This is an ancient village.

The history goes back to the Iron Age with nearby graves. There is good cause to believe that the main street was once part of a Roman Road. The Vikings left their traces in the very name itself. It is referred to in the Domesday Book. The Church of St Helen has an internal Norman Arch. The history of the ownership is proven to Saxon times. This is a treasured and important pedigree.

Detailed information on the history can be found HERE.

The Webmaster has also brought together the history of the village into a single volume which, if fully printed, runs to about 1000 pages of A4. A less challenging (and lighter) version can be supplied with the detailed genealogy and census returns from 1841 to 1911on a seperate CD-ROM. This can be purchased in a professionally bound hard back edition direct from the Webmaster to whom all enquiries should be made - Email.
